Shorts on the Hill

What is Shorts on the Hill?

The Office of Residential Life and Campus Events Commission present Shorts On The Hill. Shorts On The Hill is a preliminary All-Hill Film Festival to the 17th Annual Shorttakes Student Film Festival, open to UCLA residential hall residents only. Shorts On The Hill was been formed in order to encourage residents to make and submit short films and gain recognition on both the Hill and throughout UCLA. The winner of the Shorts On The Hill will be shown alongside our national finalists at the Shorttakes Student Film Festival on May 24, 2011.

The submission price for UCLA students is $5 per entry by the early deadline on April 14, 2011, and $10 per entry by the late deadline on April 21, 2011. Films will be judged by not only members of Campus Events Commission, but by some staff members of Residential Life. Short films must be under 10 minutes long and fall under live-action drama, live-action comedy, or animation/digital media categories. The overall winner Shorts On The Hill will not be announced at this special festival, but instead move on into the Shorttakes Film Festival Finale, where their film will join those films done by both current undergraduate and current graduate students from colleges and universities nationwide and be judged by notable names of the film, television, and entertainment industries.

How do I apply?

All applicants must submit to the Shorttakes Student Film Festival and adhere to the Submission Guidelines. Please see Submission Information for more information. On the submission form, please select that you would like your film to be considered for the Shorts On The Hill festival so that your film will be put into consideration for the Shorts On The Hill screening.

Remember that UCLA students filming on the UCLA campus must have an approved filming permit on them at all times. Please download the Shorttakes Filming Permit Guidelines here and follow instructions to obtain your permit.

Prizes!

Even though Shorts On The Hill will not announce an ultimate winner, there will be other prizes for awards such as "Fan Favorite" and "Audience Participation," so all residents should encourage their floors, buildings, and communities to not only support them, but come out to this All-Hill Film Festival to cheer them on and win prizes!
