Christine Yuan - "$2 Pony"
As Christine Yuan and Colleen Koestner near the completion of their thesis films, the two film majors truly appreciate the well-worn metaphor of artists who birth their creations into existence. "I'm ready to cut the cord," Christine says. $2 Pony began as an effort to channel thesis frustrations into a project that was spontaneous and free-form. Inspired by the creative and organic vibes of Whittier's yummy health food eatery Fenix 5-4, the pair began to explore stop-motion using 1950's Russian dolls- each handpicked on eBay by Fenix 5-4's owner. In each rubbery face, Christine and Colleen saw the potential for gratuitous cuteness and childish nightmare. In this second episode of $2 Pony, Pony leaves Boy George and Flat Elephant to make it big in Hollywood, a land where audiences and filmmakers can "create worlds together."
